VERDICT : This is for the first time im seeing a book being sold in a wine shop!
Director Puri Jagannath has written the foreword to the book in a typical tongue-in-cheek fashion. This is not a chronological biography of maverick director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV), but seeks to offer an insight into the man behind the persona, celebrating him and deriding him in equal measure. The writer himself is a self-declared fan of RGV and the book begins with the writer's impressions of his favourite filmmaker, starting from 1989, when RGV's first film, Shiva released.
The book is full of witty anecdotes starting from the writer's first meeting with his favourite filmmaker, how the acquaintance grows into a friendship over time. The book is divided into 40 chapters — with names like pegs, munchings, soda and water and bottoms up! An exclusive interview with RGV's estranged wife, talking about her marriage to the filmmaker, the reasons behind the divorce, etc., all offers a never before seen peek into their married life and their status today. There is a free-wheeling chat with RGV's daughter Revathi and his two uncles. Of course, it has RGV in his element talking about everything under the sun, starting from his love for vodka, his thoughts on sex, his sex life, daughters, his favourite actresses, his take on Mahabharatha and so on.
